DON BROOKHART
A product of the great plains of Colorado, I want to share the stories of the people and places that made up an important part of not only Colorado History, but American History. After reading my Grandmother's stories of her childhood traveling to Colorado, and then growing up on the harsh plains, I knew they were worth sharing. I've compiled the diary entries and also added my Uncle Lester's written story. Heartbreak, hardship, and heartwarming stories abound. I hope you enjoy.
As a little girl in 1886, Adda Blanche (Doughty) Brookhart moved with her family from Missouri to homestead "the west," where land awaited those who claimed it. Adda writes these memories of her childhood. This is a story of many families that settled West.
I've spent a lifetime gathering history from my experiences, schooling and reading. Though all world history is interesting to me, I am most interested in the stories of plainsmen of the midwest, a place close to my heart. Many of these stories are the stories of my family which make them all the more interesting.
From growing up on the southeast plains, to traveling the world as a member of the US Navy, I've gathered a lifetime of stories from near and far. Though mostly based on historical facts, there is nothing wrong with a little embellishment.
Essentially, studying the natural world as a whole and the study of each species within its environment(s), as well as how species interact with each other. Looking for evolutionary markers to explain why a certain attribute may have been beneficial or what environmental conditions may have led to the rise of genetic diversity within a species.
